It was fantastic to welcome Simon McGrath from the National Caravan Council (NCC) to our Redline Campers base this week.
Simon is the NCC’s Director of Communications and Stakeholder Engagement, and joined us to discuss our future plans for working together to promote the importance of the NCC’s mission in regard to campervan conversion.
Established in 1939, the NCC is the UK trade association representing the entire supply chain for the caravan and motorhome industries. One of the key schemes run by the NCC is the Approved Manufacturer scheme.
Currently, campervan conversion is a largely unregulated industry. However, the NCC is taking steps to combat this by establishing the Approved Manufacturer scheme and with constant lobbying around campervan conversion safety measures.
To become an NCC Approved Manufacturer, a manufacturer must be continuously subject to the NCC’s comprehensive inspections and safety checks. This includes regular on-site production facility inspections and the checking of up to 600 points relating to gas and electrical installations, furnishings, and cooking equipment. Passing these inspections and safety checks demonstrates the manufacturer’s vehicles exceed BS EN 1646 European Health & Safety Standards.
Whilst NCC Approved badges are relatively commonplace on caravans and motorhomes from major manufacturers, this is not true of the largely unregulated campervan conversion industry.
At Redline Campers, we are committed to safety, quality and consistency, and are proud to be one of only five VW campervan converters in the UK to have approval from the NCC.
We gained NCC Approved Manufacturer status to instil confidence in our customers when purchasing our products. We are now looking forward to working more closely with the trade association to promote the importance of purchasing a fully safety and quality checked conversion.
