Attending the Motorhome and Caravan Show at Birmingham’s NEC this week?

From 14th to 19th October 2025, we will be exhibiting along with many other caravan, motorhome, and campervan converters and manufacturers. However, when it comes to campervans, there’s often more to consider than first meets the eye.

Whilst the Motorhome and Caravan Show is organised by the National Caravan Council (NCC) not all exhibitors are NCC Approved. Some manufacturers attend based solely on having applied for IVA, which can be confusing. To help you identify which manufacturers are part of the NCC’s Manufacturer Approval Scheme (MAS), the NCC has launched the #lookforthebadge campaign.

Watch the NCC’s short video below to learn more about this.

What is the NCC’s Manufacturer Approval Scheme (MAS)?

The NCC’s Manufacturer Approval Scheme (MAS) is a voluntary scheme for caravan and motorhome manufacturers who meet high standards in:

  • Build quality and safety
  • Customer service
  • Business practices
  • Ongoing compliance with industry regulations

Manufacturers who are NCC Approved have been independently audited and certified. This gives you confidence that your motorhome comes from a trusted, reputable source.

Redline Campers is one of only six VW campervan converters in the UK to have approval from the National Caravan Council (NCC). To receive this approval, our entire range has been subject to the NCC’s comprehensive inspections and safety checks. This includes regular on-site inspections of our production facility and thorough inspections of our gas and electrical installations, furnishings, and cooking equipment.

What is IVA?

We mentioned above that some manufacturers are attending this week’s Motorhome and Caravan Show based solely on having applied for IVA. However, you may be left wondering, what is IVA? IVA stands for Individual Vehicle Approval, and is a legal requirement for registering a motorhome in the UK when it hasn’t been approved under a broader scheme. As the name suggests, this is recognition that an individual vehicle meets the minimum safety and environmental standards.

While IVA confirms that a vehicle is road legal, it does not assess the manufacturer’s overall quality or consistency. It’s a one-off approval for individual vehicles – not a mark of manufacturing excellence.

Whole Vehicle Type Approval

At Redline Campers, we don’t have IVA for our campervan conversions. Instead, we have Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA) Whole Vehicle Type Approval. This means that all of our conversions meet the performance, technical, and safety standards set by the Department for Transport (DfT). Not just the individual tested vehicle. This confirms that we consistently build campervans to high standards across all units.

Campervans with Whole Vehicle Type Approval are proven to:

  • Be built to a consistent, approved specification
  • Benefit from streamlined registration and compliance
  • Reflect a higher level of engineering and quality control
