We’re incredibly excited to announce we are now offering unregistered New VW Transporter (T7) campervans! And the first of these brand new donor vans have already arrived on-site in Daventry.
So what does this mean for you?
Well, firstly, it means we can build and register your campervan with you as the first keeper. This is not the case for many other converters. Instead, they will be the first keeper, and you will be the second keeper, which could affect resale values in the future.
Importantly, it also means your campervan will be registered as a ‘motorcaravan’ with the DVLA. You might be surprised to learn this isn’t the case with pre-registered vans.
If a van is pre-registered, it will be registered as a ‘van with side windows’ with the DVLA. This isn’t just a simple difference in name, though; it’s a difference in the entire way the vehicle is classified. Because the DVLA considers a ‘van with side windows’ to be a van, it must adhere to the rules of the road designated for vans. ‘Motorcaravans’, on the other hand, are treated just like cars. Amongst other things, this means they can travel up to 70mph on dual carriageways, whereas vans under 3.5 tonnes can only travel up to 60mph on the same roads.
It’s not just about speed, though. As our brand new VW Transporters now come unregistered, they can also be easier to insure due to their recognised campervan status. Whilst in the event of a claim, our published retail price list is in place to simplify settlements.
Going forward, all of our brand new VW Transporter campervans will be offered unregistered. Once built, we will submit the second-stage Certificate of Conformity (COC) with your details to VW, resulting in a logbook classifying it as a motorcaravan. This makes us one of the few campervan conversion companies in the UK that can offer this. Not only this, but we are also an NCC Approved Manufacturer, VCA Whole Vehicle Type Approved, and follow an ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system for consistent quality.
These accreditations ensure compliance with BS EN 1646 habitation standards and DfT road safety requirements, setting us apart from uncertified operators.
