VW Transporter SWB vs LWB

VW Transporter T6 and T6.1 vans are available in two wheelbase options, short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB). The difference between these two options is the length.

SWB VW Transporter T6 and T6.1 vehicles measure 4.9m in length, whilst LWB VW Transporter T6 and T6.1 vehicles measure 5.3m in length.

It should be noted that the above vehicle lengths refer to standard VW Transporter vans. If these have been modified with the addition of a tow bar or a bike rack, this will increase the standard length of the vehicle.

In our campervan listings, the wheelbase of a vehicle will be denoted by either SWB or LWB. SWB stands for short wheelbase, LWB stands for long wheelbase.

On the road, the characteristics of a LWB VW Transporter won’t be that much different to those of a SWB VW Transporter. However, due to the extra length of the vehicle, the turning circle becomes a little wider on a LWB VW Transporter. The turning circle of a LWB VW Transporter is 13.2m, whilst the turning circle of a SWB VW Transporter is 11.9m.

Across our campervan range, we offer our Classic, Sport, Sport XS, Sport + and Trekker models on both a SWB and LWB VW Transporter, and our Sport SKR model exclusively on a LWB VW Transporter.
